KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The 2011 Kid’s Health and Safety Expo took place Friday at the NEMO Fairgrounds and the rain didn’t put a damper on things.

More than 200 kids and their parents showed up for the day long event.

It’s an annual event put on by United Way of Adair County/Northeast Missouri and there was something for everyone.

“We have about 25 booths so that's 25 organizations that are represented and here and they all have some connection with health or safety and an interest in children and family,” said John Dungan, Executive Director of United WAY of NEMO.

Several of the booths were hands-on so kids were able to learn through interaction while other booths provided demonstrations.

“We're having everything from the Missouri Department of Conservation who are doing a presentation on snakes and how to recognize venomous snakes and to stay safe to organizations that are providing eye care screenings and some other screenings so we just have a wide variety of things,” Dungan said.

The whole purpose of this event is to show what Kirksville how to offer to the community.

“Well this is an opportunity for people to find out the multiple resources that are available to them in our community for health and fitness, for activities, for support for their kids and their own health as well as their family health,” said Dungan.

Door prizes and goodie bags were also given out.
