OTTUMWA,IA -- Indian Hills Community College president Dr. Jim Lindenmayer this week was given the Outstanding Chief Administrator Award by the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees (IACCT). Lindenmayer was honored at the IACCT Annual Conference in Ankeny.
Lindenmayer has been the IHCC president since January 2002 and has been with the college for over three decades.
IACCT Executive Director MJ Dolan praised Lindenmayer for his “compassion for his staff, students and community.” “Jim is a leader among his colleagues and in his community,” Dolan said. “And, most importantly, for those of us with a statewide and a national focus, he is a leader in public policy at all levels.”
Lindenmayer is currently the chairman of the Iowa community college presidents’ group.
John Pothoven, president of the Indian Hills Board of Trustees, said Lindenmayer is very deserving of the IACCT award, citing his goals to grow opportunities for young people in the 10-county area that Indian Hills serves.
“Jim is great at building alliances with business, industry and local school districts,” said Pothoven. “The college has added many new programs to train students in the job skills they need to secure good jobs. He is always looking for ways to make Indian Hills a better place.”
Pothoven pointed to Lindenmayer’s leadership ability as his greatest asset, and said, “Jim demonstrates a caring attitude toward all people. He leads with calmness and consideration. He is outstanding with students and all who work with him.”
It was because of the IHCC president’s tireless work, Pothoven said, that Indian Hills was able to build a new Rural Health Education Center on the main campus in Ottumwa. He noted that Lindenmayer was also instrumental in bringing a federal Job Corps Center to the area. The center will be opening at the IHCC North Campus later this year.
Lindenmayer became the third president of Indian Hills when he succeeded Dr. Lyle Hellyer in 2002. He came to IHCC as an Adult Education Coordinator in 1980 and has also been the college’s Personnel Director, Dean of Personnel and Vice President, Administration and Personnel.
