BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- Sunday marked the end of the Davis County Fair. The fair, one of Iowa’s oldest was a great success this year despite the high temperatures. Even though the Davis County High School baseball team was playing in Des Moines, the fair still had good attendance.
One draw to this particular fair is its relative location to northeast Missouri and other southeastern Iowa communities, which makes it easily accessible.
One of the largest exhibits at the fair was the livestock expo. The livestock expo at the Davis County Fair is always a popular exhibit.
Calvin Utt, a junior at Davis County High School told KTVO about his prize winning pigs. “This red pig right here – I got first with him, Grand Champion Market. He weighed 253 pounds and my other one weighed 252 pounds. I spent about two days a week walking with them and washing them. You just got to keep feed in-front of them, keep their water fresh and dry spot the hay.”
The fair also hosted shows for cows, lambs and horses. The final fair for competitors in southeast Iowa is the Iowa State Fair, which will take place next month.
