QUEEN CITY, MO. -- Schuyler County residents got a chance to learn about safety Saturday.

Schuyler County High School in Queen City hosted The Schulyer County Health Department’s first ever “Safety Day.”

Organizations like Mo-DOT, Tri-County Electric, and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) gave presentations and demonstrations on safety and preparedness.

The main purpose of today’s event was to help families set up an emergency plan and give the community a chance to ask questions or get information on what to do in the event of disaster.
Event coordinator and Schuyler County Public Health representative Brenda Wilson says it is extremely important for families to be prepared and ready especially for the critical first 72 hours right after an event.

“For the first 72 hours, you may be buried in rumble while people are trying to find you. So you need to know what to do to protect yourself in the event prior to and in the event. Then what you can do to help those who are coming to help you respond to you.”

The Schuyler County Ambulance District and Fire Department were also there showing off their emergency vehicles and The Air Vac Life Team had its helicopter on display. Organizers hope to throw another safety event in the near future.
