Horseback riding took a stand against cancer today
DOWNING, MO. -- Horseback riding took a stand against cancer today.
For the second year in a row, Schuyler County Relay for Life and The Coffey Ropers teamed up for “Heading for a Cure to Heel Cancer” event at the Downing fair grounds Saturday. There was barrel racing, ranch rodeo, and team roping.
Relay for Life set up a food stand and sold t-shirts to raise money for The American Cancer Society and research. This event is to kick-off summer fundraising for the team. Committee member Lisa Tarr is encouraging people to sign up.
“Obviously we're definitely interested in anybody who want to get a team in Schuyler County or would want to be interested in doing anything with the event. Like I said we just have a couple of teams, we normally average about 10 teams and as a small county we usually raise somewhere in the thirty thousand dollar range.”
The percentage used in fees in today’s event will also towards Relay for Life. The main event is scheduled for October 15 at Schuyler County High School in Queen City.
If you liked to form a team, you can start signing up in August online at http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/
