OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Hundreds of Ottumwans came out to learn more about volunteering.
The Quincy Place Mall hosted Community Day Saturday. It comes as National Volunteering Week comes to an end.
32 different organizations in Ottumwa and from around Wapello County were on hand to showcase the different services they offer. Organizers also hope to promote volunteering opportunities to the public.
United Way of Wapello County Executive Director Desiree Johnson says giving back is great in more ways than one.
"It gives people a really good opportunity to find out about what's going on in the community. This is really giving back to the community. Non-profit organizations really do operate on a really tight shoe string. By volunteers donating some of their time and talent, it makes a big difference in what services they can provide."
Another Community Day is scheduled for the fall. If you would like to sign up to volunteer and the various organizations, call 641-682-1264 or visit http://www.wapellocouw.org/.
