OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Our Facebook story of the day today focuses on the status of the animals seized from the property of Noelle Stanbridge.

KTVO contacted both the Ottumwa Police Department and the City of Ottumwa to get an update on this case.

Officer Jeff Williams with the Ottumwa Police Department informed KTVO Thursday that 10 dogs and 5 cats are in the care of private shelters.  The animals will stay in the care of those shelters pending a court hearing scheduled for April 13, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.

At that hearing, a judge will decide whether Stanbridge will regain custody of the animals or if they city will take custody.  If the judge rules in favor of the city, the animals then will go up for adoption.

Officer Williams informed KTVO that they have received calls from all over the country from people wanting to adopt the animals involved in this case.

A criminal case against Noelle Stanbridge is still being pursued.  That case could take place within a couple of months.

Many Facebook fans have asked if the city was going to pursue charges against the neighbor that shot the video.  Officer Williams informed KTVO that the neighbor did nothing wrong in this case.  The neighbor witnessed criminal activity, recorded the activity and turned that recording over to the police department.

Tom Rodgers with the City of Ottumwa informed KTVO he wanted to thank the community for their support for the animals.

"You know, this has been a very emotional case for a lot of people and we do appreciate the citizens that are concerned about these animals.  We just want them to know that the animals are being cared for and are being taken good care of at this point," said Tom Rodgers.
