Suspect shoots self during arrest attempt

NEAR ST. CATHERINE, MO. -- An arrest attempt in rural Linn County, Missouri ended with a shot fired.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said it happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday when a Linn County sheriff's deputy contacted Scott E. Robinson, 31, at his residence on Highway 11, north of St. Catherine, Missouri,

Robinson was wanted on an active Linn County misdemeanor arrest warrant for passing bad checks. 

As the deputy was attempting to arrest Robinson, investigators said the suspect drew a loaded handgun from his waistband and shot himself. 

Robinson was flown to University Hospital in Columbia where, at last check, he was listed in serious condition.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.
