DES MOINES, IOWA -- The 84th Legislative session began at the Iowa State Capitol Monday morning.

And there was a different feeling in the air.

The Republican Party has retaken control of the house, and added to their seats in the senate.

Meanwhile, Republican Governor-Elect Terry Branstad will be sworn into office this Friday.

There is definitely a different feel in the house with the change in power.

The power has shifted towards the republicans this session.

Iowa has gone from a Democrat governor to a Republican governor.

State Senator Sandy Greiner (R)-Keota said her primary focus is going to be on jobs because we have so many people in the 45th senate district who are out of work or under-employed.

"My focus will be to try to help create legislation that will bring new jobs," said Greiner.

The Republicans will also focus on balancing out the budget in the Hawkeye State.
