KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Wednesday marks one of the busiest travel days of the year.  For those of you traveling by car you may want to listen up.  Missouri State Highway Patrolmen will be out in force this holiday weekend enforcing traffic laws and helping motorists with any type of emergency.  Sgt. Brent Bernhardt says being smart is the first line of defense.

“Certainly if their weekend plans also include alcohol we encourage them to choose a sober designated driver” said Sgt. Bernhardt.  “Last but not least, we want to encourage everyone to buckle up.  We want to make sure everybody that’s in your vehicle is properly restrained even with a seatbelt or child restraint seat.”

Sgt. Bernhardt said a selective traffic enforcement program will be conducted on the peak travel days of Wednesday and Sunday.

“In the Troop B area these select traffic enforcement programs will be conducted on US Highway 63 and 36 as well as some secondary roads in our region.”

So as you travel to enjoy the Thanksgiving season, make sure to take all the precautions in order to have a safe and happy holiday.
