(OTTUMWA, Iowa) - The city of Ottumwa is preparing to bond for 3.6 million dollars for capital improvements in the City of Bridges.

The council approved the list of projects Monday night, removing some items proposed by the city staff and moving them into the general fund.

Included on the list of approved items are $415,000 for downtown security cameras and $65,000 for pool filters at the Beach Ottumwa.

But when push came to shove, most of the council expressed the opinion that Ottumwa tax payers want the money spent on streets.

"You know, I agree with Keith. (Council member Keith Caviness)  I have never had someone come up and say boy stop fixing the roads. I think that's the direction the citizens feel we should go and move on it," said Council Member Brian Morgan.

The bonds will be repaid in two years.

Ottumwa Public Information Officer Tom Rodgers added that with matching grants and other funds, the bond 3.6 million raised from the bonds can be leveraged into over ninemillion in project spending.
