KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Kirksville Area Technical Center (KATC) has officially opened the doors to its new facilities.

The new facilities include new nursing equipment and improved agricultural facilities.

A ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon marked the completion of the project, which cost five point two million dollars and took two years to complete.

Part of the new facilities are 12 new hospital beds and a realistic setup for the nursing program.

Terri Jones, the KATC director, said the facilities are up and running, but there are some minor details left in the project.

“We gain something about every day.  We still have some sinks that need replaced, some doors that are still coming, but we've been functioning and operational ever since school started.  It just wasn't necessarily a smooth start to school because our stuff was still in storage from the whole back side of the building until the day before school started,” said Jones.

The new facilities also allow KATC to provide degree programs through Moberly Area Community College.  Jones also says the school will offer a welding program in the near future.
