KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Northeast Missouri Rural Health Network (NMRHN) is offering prescription medications to the uninsured.  The Prescription Drug Assistance Program offers those without insurance a chance to obtain medications for chronic conditions and teaches patients how to manage their health conditions.

“We’ve helped over 900 people receive $4.5 million worth of free medications through the pharmaceutical assistance program” said NMRHN Executive Director Glenna Young.

Young said a qualifying patient must bring a list of their medications and their income tax return to their office.  Household income levels may reach up to $21,660 for one person with $7,480 allowed for each additional person.

“These people should also not have any coverage for medications through their insurance, Medicare Part D or Medicaid,” said Young.

In addition to prescription medication, NMRHN offers additional help.

“We have a referral coordinator in place that helps patients get the healthcare services they need such as items as low cost hearing aids and glasses,” said Young.   “We try and connect them through different programs that are available to assist them.”  Young also said self management training is available for diabetic patients.

Grant funding allows the services to be provided at a low cost or free of charge.

NMRHN serves residents in Adair, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Macon, Putnam, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby and Sullivan counties.
