KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Adair County SB40 Developmental Disabilities Board invited the community to check out its new Service Coordination Office in Kirksville on Tuesday.
The group held an open house and ribbon cutting at its new building on E. McPherson.
“It's a very exciting day because we have everything coming together that people have worked for awhile trying to put together. So to actually see it come together in one physical place and to see the beginning start where it’s really been going on for some time is just great to see,” said Board Member Jeff Silvernail.
Staff moved in to the new office on Sept. 1.
That's also when SB40 began providing expanded targeted case management services in Adair, Sullivan, Schuyler, Putnam and Scotland Counties. Previously those services were handled by the state.
“Other county boards have done it across the state and it’s been very successful for every one of them. We are just really looking forward to getting this going and providing services that wouldn't otherwise be available,” said Executive Director Deb Wohlers.
Wohlers said that since the county boards can provide the same case management services for a cheaper rate than the state, it will actually generate money. That money will come back into the five counties in northeast Missouri and be used to provide additional services for residents.
