KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- At Monday night's Kirksville City Council Study Session, the council looked over the proposed draft of the dangerous animal ordinance.

Currently the city has an ordinance regarding some animals within the city limits but several council members think it should be tougher.

Council members Detweiller and Rowe thinks pit bulls should be banned from city limits.

Mayor Kuhns thinks no specific dog breed should be named in the ordinance because "the logic isn't quite there."

Councilwoman Chrisman thinks the dog owners should be held responsible for the pet's actions.

“We need to have something on the books that talks about the safety in terms of making sure that dangerous animals are not with inside the city limits.  So as we walk through this process we're kind of looking at the pros and cons in terms of what all it should say.  Next thing up would be to have public input into that situation,” said Kirksville City Councilman Tony Fajkus.

Council members want to get input from the public before they vote on the ordinance at a future meeting.

So what do you think?
