DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Flash flood watches and warnings are in effect for much of northern Iowa as thunderstorms continue to pelt the state.
The National Weather Services says as much as five inches of rain fell in parts of the state overnight. Thunderstorms began to diminish Friday morning, but the runoff from those storms may lead to flash flooding in Clarion, Eagle Grove, Hampton, Iowa Falls and Webster City.
Flash flooding has occurred in Fort Dodge, where Highway 169 and several streets were closed because of standing water.
Waterloo set a daily record Thursday with 2.2 inches of rain.
Authorities closed portions of Highway 150 in Oelwein and Highway 52 near Rickardsville in Dubuque County.
