JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- The people who challenged a Missouri ballot measure on health care have decided not to appeal a judge's decision dismissing their lawsuit.

Attorney Chip Gentry said Monday his clients don't plan to take the case to the Missouri Supreme Court.

On Friday, Cole County Circuit Judge Paul Wilson rejected a lawsuit seeking to strike the proposal from the Aug. 3 ballot. The lawsuit claimed legislators violated the state constitution in the way they drafted the measure.

The Missouri proposal would bar governments from requiring people to have health insurance or from penalizing people for paying their own health bills. It would conflict with a requirement of a new federal law requiring most people to have health insurance or face fines by 2014.
