COLUMBIA, MO. (AP) -- A man sentenced to death in 2001 for killing two mid-Missouri jailers during a botched escape
will remain on death row.
A jury decided Wednesday that Michael Tisius, 29, deserves to die for the 2000 deaths of Randolph County jailers, Jason Acton and Leon Egley.
The two men were killed after Tisius and the girlfriend of inmate Roy Vance unsuccessfully tried to free Vance.
Tisius was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.
A jury was brought brought to Columbia from southwest Missouri's Greene County for a new trial on the sentence.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the jury had the option of the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
