KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The American Red Cross is teaming up with several Kirksville media outlets for the annual Media Blood Drive on Wednesday. With blood supplies traditionally lower during the summer with schools out and families on vacation, the American Red Cross is asking for your help.
Everyone who attempts to donate will receive a specially designed Cardinals and Americana Red Cross t-shirt. Donor Recruitment Representative Sara Rex said two lucky donors will receive a special treat.
“I just found out today, I have two signed t-shirts by pitcher Kyle McClellan to give away to donors” said Rex. “They just have to register at the canteen tomorrow. This is the only Cardinals blood drive in northeast Missouri this year.”
In addition to giving blood, donors can log on to the Red Cross Racing website to log their experience. Every time you donate blood, you can earn points.
"Donors have the eligibility to go online and register with Red Cross Racing” said Rex. “What you do is every time you donate, you go in and put in your donation and build points and the more points that you build, you can purchase prizes."
Donors have until November 1, to register for a 2011 Ford Fiesta.
The Red Cross has a goal set for the Media Blood Drive at 185 pints of blood. Rex is hoping to surpass that number by 40 pints.
The annual Media Blood Drive will take place on Wednesday at Kirksville’s Primary School from noon to 6:00 p.m.
