MACON, MISSOURI -- News release from Missouri State Highway Patrol

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of a tri-state commercial motor vehicle safety check conducted from April 7 through April 10.

During the safety check, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol joined forces with the Illinois State Police, and the Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division, focusing on detecting unsafe commercial motor vehicle equipment and commercial driver violations in Southeast Iowa, Northeast Missouri, and Northwest Illinois.  The major focus for the Missouri State Highway Patrol was on U.S. Highway 136, U.S. Highway 61, and Missouri Highway 27.  A total of 233 safety inspections were completed during the duration of the safety check resulting in 37 commercial motor vehicles and 17 drivers being placed out - of - service.  Officers also issued 65 commercial motor vehicle related traffic citations and issued 371 warnings.

"Ensuring that commercial motor vehicles are being operated with safe equipment is important in keeping our highways safe," stated Captain Wilt.
