KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Lakes, Parks, and Recreation Committee continued their tour of Kirksville parks while meeting at Patryla Park Tuesday. LPRC looks at each park’s master plan to decide what changes might make the park better for the community.
At P.C. Mills the committee plans to replace some of the playground equipment to improve accessibility for users. At Memorial Park playground equipment will also be replaced and a garden will occupy the location of the old wading pool. Those improvements will be partially funded through a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant.
“It will probably be over a two-to-three year period because these are grant funds and it’s reimbursable, it is a process that we have to work through but we should be seeing some big changes to these two parks in the next few years,” said Community Services Director Melanie Smith.
11 communities will receive more than $600,000 in federal funds to assist with park and recreation needs. P.C. Mills and Memorial Park will receive $35,000 each.
