KIRKSVILLE, MO --

A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine received the biggest gift in school history.

Fred Couts, D.O. of the Class of 1953 left the college $7 million upon his death last year.

A ceremony was held in Couts’ honor Friday, and the Couts Learning Center was dedicated on ATSU’s campus.

“This is perfect timing for a gift of that magnitude to come to us. We're doing pretty well but this is going to help us achieve even more in the way of student learning,” said President Jack Magruder.

Couts was also a graduate of Truman State University. He actively practiced medicine for 55 years in St. Louis.
