KIRKSVILLE, MO --

It's no surprise that more and more people have been shopping at thrift stores over the last few years. But with the number of shoppers up and the number of donations down, some non-profit groups are struggling to keep thrift stores open.

Our Fact Finder Team stopped by the Kirksville Salvation Army in Kirksville to see if this rings true locally.

“The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Kirksville is doing wonderful. A year ago February we moved to South Baltimore location in Lincoln Square and after that move we've seen retail sales go up double what they were previously. There's never hardly a time when you don't drive by and there's cars in the parking lot,” said Major Bill Hogg, Kirksville Salvation Army.

The Kirksville Salvation Army Thrift store is defying the national trend of struggling stores. Sales usually bring in about $1000 per day.

Hogg says they can barely keep up with the number of donations coming through the doors.
