KIRKSVILLE, MO --
The Salvation Army in Kirksville has a new set of wheels.
The church is the proud owner of a new disaster services canteen that will respond to emergencies around the Troop B area of Northeast Missouri.
The mobile feeding unit is complete with a stove, sink, coffeepot, and microwave. The Salvation Army is also hoping to install a small refrigerator.
“It's always much better when you come to a disaster to have something you can feed and do things out of rather than the back of a 12 passenger van or the back of a minivan. This is also a little bit more sanitary with the stainless steel countertops,” said Major Bill Hogg, Kirksville Salvation Army.
The $70,000 vehicle was purchased by Regional Homeland Security.
The public will have an opportunity to tour the canteen April 16 at the Salvation Army from 10 a.m. to noon.
