BURLINGTON, IOWA (AP) -- Additional details trickled out Thursday in the police shooting of a Burlington man during a rural southeast Iowa methamphetamine investigation.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says 51-year-old Earl Freeman was shot and injured by two officers at about 4 a.m. Wednesday in Wever.

Before the shooting, Freeman allegedly sprayed four of the officers with anhydrous ammonia, a fertilizer used to make methamphetamine.

The four officers were treated and released. Freeman was taken to the University Hospitals in Iowa City. A hospital spokeswoman says Freeman's condition was not available Thursday afternoon. No charges have been filed.

A Department of Public Safety spokeswoman says one of the officers involved in the shooting has been put on paid leave.
