KEOSAUQUA, IOWA -- Do you have any extra pairs of shoes lying around your house?
New or old, the students at Van Buren High School want them.
The students call their shoe drive "Soles 4 Souls" with all the shoes benefiting Haiti relief.
They started the drive last week and the endless donations forced them to raise their goal twice now.
It currently stands at to 1,000 pairs of shoes, a goal they expect to shatter with more than two weeks left in the drive.
“It's been amazing,” said Van Buren High School Student Council President Chelsey Millard. “The first three days we were like OK surely the shoes will stop coming in. It just seems like we get more shoes as the week progresses and we never expected it and it's a huge wow and thank-you to everyone."
Shoes will be collected until the 19th.
On the 20th, native folk musician Greg Brown will be playing a benefit concert at Van Buren elementary. The event is sponsored by the Christ United Methodist Church of Douds.
All the proceeds from the concert go to Haiti relief as well. Donations will be taken at the door.
