OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The city of Ottumwa continues to wrestle with a budget for the 2011 fiscal year.
A meeting scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the budget has been moved to Thursday this week. Last week, city administrator Joe Helfenberger presented almost $300,000 worth of cuts.
KTVO spoke with city councilman Bob Meyers about the budget discussions. Meyers wants to stretch every tax dollar paid by Ottumwa residents.
“We still have to look at what can we do how can we spend that tax dollar in the best possible way for all the citizens of Ottumwa," Meyers said.
At the next meeting, new ideas as to where to save money will be presented.
“We're going to then take a look at any additional suggestions and I understand that there are a few more that have developed. Those suggestions may have developed out of individual council members.”
Be sure to stay tuned to KTVO news as the city continues to work towards a budget for 2011.
