OTTUMWA, IOWA -- The Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce's Annual Partner’s Banquet was tonight.
Former Drake Basketball Star Dolph Pulliam gave the honorary talk.
He expressed the need to reach out and do the right thing.
The big honor of the night, the Gene Schultz Community Service Award, went to a well deserving couple in Bill and Mary Greenley.
“Absolutely amazed and so humbled and honored. I always knew Ottumwa was the best place and this just shows it. I love it,” said Mary Greenley.
They said they knew nothing of the award and were completely surprised. Bill Greenley said this was the first time in last four years he has been completely speechless.
Pulliam’s talk of doing the right thing echoes the Greenley’s kind actions.
“Well it's so easy to do. Ottumwa is so receptive and they are great people, we're just great people here and it's so easy to do things and know they respect it. They love it,” Mary Greenley said.
Bill Greenley added, “Ottumwa is very easy to volunteer in because people are so receptive. Anything you do in this town is so well received.”
Outstanding business awards were also given out. Recipients included McCune and Reed Insurance, Hotel Ottumwa, Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation, and Winger Contracting Company.
