SULLIVAN COUNTY, MO --

One year ago Sheriff Roger Smiley was in the trucking business and knew very little about the office of sheriff.

Since then he's graduated from sheriff's training and held the office of sheriff for more than a year. Smiley attended training at Moberly Area Community College for the first five months of his term while also serving as sheriff. He says the long days and nights were hard on him and his family.

“My best thing I enjoy about the job, if I can help people, it's not just about the bad guys or whatever, you know, making the arrest if you can help people, especially young people,” said Sheriff Roger Smiley, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department.

Smiley says he helps correct problems with the citizens so they can have productive lives. Even though last year was tough on smiley and his family, he says it was all worth it.
