KIRKSVILLE, MO --

Heat help is available for those struggling to keep warm in the bitter cold temperatures so far this winter.

Residents can stop by any Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency location to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

“The first component's the Energy Assistance component which is a one time payment from the state that goes directly to the primary heating source provider and there's no crisis needed for that program, so it can be anyone that meets the income guidelines which are 135 percent of the federal poverty level or below,” said Mindy Garrett, Emergency Services Coordinator.

The second part is the Energy Crisis Intervention Program, which is for those in disconnect or have under 20 percent in their propane tank.

The deadline to apply is March 31. In order to apply, you’ll need a copy of your last heating bill, documentation of the prior month’s income, and social security cards for all household members.
