KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Fact Finder asked the people in charge of some Kirksville retail stores. The ones we found said that, in general, the day was a success compared to last year.
Paige Nelson of JC Penney said that shoppers were searching for the basics as much as anything.
“Black Friday went really good for us, actually. The customers were kind of shopping basic items this year and we had plenty of those and we didn't run out of anything. We had plenty of the items that were advertised, so it went well for us,” said Nelson.
"We had a lot more items, over 100 items, this year. We had fewer customers probably for the day, but the average transactions, what we look at, way up from previous years,” said Doug Nichting, the store manager of Wal-Mart.
Nichting added that electronics were especially popular this year, that the store sold a lot of GPS units and Laptops.
Fact Finder also talked to a small business owner as well to see what she thought.
Sherry Stacey, the owner of Hidden Treasures, estimated that business has doubled since last year. She said it could be attributed to the economy.
“We had an amazing day. This whole year has been good compared to last year…” she said.
