KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- April 15 has come and gone and that means many people probably aren't thinking about our taxes.
But our Fact Finder team has learned that if you plan on moving this summer, there are some things you can do now that will help you when it comes time to do your taxes next year.
IRS spokesman Michael Devine says that once you have your new address you should notify the postal service. The post office will give your new address to the IRS. He also says it's important to make sure your employer has your new address so you receive your W-2s next year.
Fact Finder has also learned your moving expenses may be tax deductible if you meet certain criteria. If your move is closely related to the start of work at a new job location, and if you meet the distance and time tests your moving expenses may be deductible.
