KIRKSVILLE, MO --
It was three years in the making, but the Multi-War Mural at VFW Post 2-08 in Kirksville is now officially in place.
Sunday the mural was dedicated to the VFW and the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. The work of art is valued at $30,000.It was painted by Rusty Nelson, an Art Professor at Truman State University. The veterans involved in the project say they wouldn't change a thing about the mural which depicts World War II through Desert Storm.
“A bunch of us got together and put it up together and you don't have any concept until you start seeing things go together. It took a little jiggling here and there. I was really amazed, really amazed at the quality of work he did, how everything fit together,” said Commander Thomas Yunich.
The artist spent 400 hours creating the mural. The artwork and labor were donated as a tribute to past and present veterans.
