KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Rain wasn't enough to stop the Truman State University Army ROTC from getting outside and showing off what the army has to offer.
The rappel tower was very popular as ROTC students, National Guard members, and even the public had their chance to see what it was like. But that wasn't all there was to check out.
“Behind me we're doing rappel tower, to my right we have helicopters, people look at those. National Guard assets on site for weapons familiarization. There's a medical truck over there, people check out. And we have vehicles like a HMMWV and a boat for people to look at and for other possible branches they could join,” said Army ROTC Cadet David Atkinson.
“We've been doing something like this every year. It varies as far as what we have and what's available to us. We had some kind of utility helicopter here last year. We didn't have as much. I'd say this is the most that we've ever had since I've been here, so the last 4 years,” said Army ROTC Cadet Battalion Commander Brian Caldwell.
The event was called ‘Branch Orientation Day’ but officials say it was really just an opportunity to show people different branches of the military.
Service personnel were also busy spreading the word about career choices within the army.
