KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Missouri House Budget Committee met recently and laid out the budget for the fiscal year.

But our Fact Finder Team learned some experts don't think the process is a good one.

One expert says today's process is very different than years past.

“They would spend weeks deliberating the proposed bill making claims on a need for different priorities, making their case and every legislator on the committee spoke to their preferences and why they thought it should be a particular way and you would see a lot of cross-party voting,” said Truman State University Political Science Professor Candy Young.

Young told Fact Finder now every vote is a party vote and there isn't enough time for lawmakers asking the tough questions.

She also said the public doesn't get a chance to have much input in the budget decisions.
