KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Saturday is Valentine's Day and that means many people sent their sweetheart a traditional bouquet of flowers in honor of the occasion.
Our Fact Finder team stopped by two local flower shops to find out how business was this year.
Florists at the Blossom Shop and at the Hy-Vee Floral Shop told Fact Finder February 14 is their busiest day of the year. Both said they prepare hundreds of bouquets for Valentine's Day.
And Fact Finder learned that even the economy didn't keep people from celebrating this year.
“It's been a pretty good year. Of course, it's probably not quite as good as usual, but people still want to buy their special someone something for Valentine's Day, they don't want to forget them. So it's been pretty good,” said Blossom Shop Owner Melodie Sevits.
Florists at both Hy-Vee and the Blossom Shop also told Fact Finder that having the holiday fall on a weekend impacted sales. They said people spread out their celebrations and therefore their purchases over the weekend instead of having them all concentrated on one day.
