OTTUMWA, IOWA -- With the New Year here, many of us have made resolutions. One of Ottumwa’s businesses seems to be thriving off of people’s pledges to become healthier.
After being closed for New Year’s Day, the Ottumwa YMCA boomed with business this weekend.
The staff told KTVO that there was a steady inflow of existing members and a stack full of new memberships as well, including several students from Indian Hills wanting to lose the freshman fifteen they had gained.
"This time of year we always see an increase in memberships. A lot of people making New Year’s resolutions, wanting to get some weight off and get back into a healthier lifestyle,” said Linsey Baker, Aquatics Director.
However, the YMCA knows that resolutions can get lost within the coming months, so they worked hard to add new programs to keep members interested in working out.
New classes include a dance class set to Latin music and a class that mixes yoga and pilates.
