KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Adair County Health Department is taking steps to protect your kids from the flu.

Fact Finder learned that the department has offered to go to schools in Kirksville, Novinger and Brashear to give free flu shots to students who have their parents permission.

All of the schools are taking the health department up on its offer.

The idea is to stop the spread of the flu.

"I thought, ‘Well, since we were having so much flu with children, or students, that this might be a good program that we might offer to the schools,’" said Claudine Frazier, Administrator of the Adair County Health Department.

Adair County parents are also welcome to get the flu shot free of charge.

On a related note, the Macon County Health Department is holding a drive-through flu clinic Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Macon County Fairgrounds between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The cost is $20 unless you're a Medicare or Medicaid recipient, and then the shots are free.
