MILLARD, MO -- With another strong winter storm on the way, the Kirksville Regional Airport is preparing once again for the worst.

All day Monday City of Kirksville officials have been helping airport officials plow snow to get it off the runways and pre-treat it ahead of the storm using a special clean sand.

During the last week's winter storm, 4 Cape Air flights were canceled and once again there is a chance for that to happen.

Airport officials said the bottom line is all about safety.

"People need to understand that if a flight is canceled, there's a good reason," said Airport Operator Ed Turner. "The airline is trying to keep their people safe. They want to ensure that conditions are at any given time are no problems coming or going, landing or flying, whatever the case is."

Turner said if you had plans to fly out of Kirksville Regional Airport Tuesday, the best thing to do is to call the airport ahead of time. You can call the airport at (660) 665-5020 from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Crews will be working around the clock to monitor weather conditions at the airport.

If weather conditions get worse, the airport will be shut down.
