BROOKFIELD, MO. -- On Main Street in Brookfield a new business popped up at the beginning of October.

It’s called "Smell Goodz."

“Well, I’ve got a little bit of everything. I’ve got lotions, candles, incense,” said owner Travis Lovett.

But, inside this calming environment, you wouldn't believe that something being sold could be dividing this small community.

It’s not the scented candles or body spray that’s causing all the controversy.  It’s this new product called Bocomo-Dew.

“It’s a bunch of herbs with a special spray that does the affect of marijuana. You could put it in your sock drawer and make your socks smell pretty,” explained Lovett.

And it's a legal incense.

But, Richard Davis, a father and a local pastor, sees this product in a different light.

Some of our local kids are smoking it and uh…we don’t know what it’s going to do to these kids long term,” said Davis.

But Lovett says he's not marketing to kids or encouraging anyone to smoke it.

“I want the kids to know that you’ve got to be 18 years of age to by this product and please don’t smoke this product,” said Lovett.

But, Lovett admits there is an issue with it getting into young hands.

“We’ve got a problem with people that’s older than 18 coming in and buying for the young ones around here.”

And Lovett says since he doesn't know who those people are, he can't stop it.

But, Davis is on a mission with his group: "Brookfield Citizens for a Change" to stop this substance and everything he deems as harmful from being sold in Brookfield.

“We’re going to target any local business that sells harmful substances including alcohol that might be a detriment to our kids,” said Davis.

But, Lovett won't let that rain on his parade.

“I’m going to sell it because it’s a big seller,” said Lovett.

Davis is inviting everyone to a town hall meeting concerning drug and alcohol abuse on Monday at 7 p.m. in the Brookfield High School Cafeteria.
