Historic bell stolen; police investigating

OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Lt. Tom McAndrew informed KTVO on Thursday afternoon that the Ottumwa Police Department has recovered the trailer the Ottumwa High School Victory Bell sits on; however, they are still searching for the bell and those responsible for stealing it.

According to Lt. McAndrew, the bell was reported missing on January 2 from the Ottumwa Community School District's storage facility on Gateway Drive.

Police are asking for the public's help in this case.

If you know who is responsible for the theft or have even seen the missing bell, contact the Ottumwa Police Department at 641-683-0661.


The Ottumwa Police Department is currently investigating a case involving the disappearance of the Ottumwa High School Victory Bell.

The bell is used by OHS Cheerleaders during the home football games.

Lt. Tom McAndrew with the Ottumwa Police Department confirmed to KTVO Thursday that the bell was taken from its storage facility on Gateway Drive in Ottumwa.

As of Thursday afternoon, police do not know who is responsible for taking the historic bell.
