KIRKSVILLE, MO -- People of all ages put on their running shoes in Kirksville Saturday morning all for a great cause.

The Kirksville YMCA held their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K and Walk.

Despite the windy weather, it was sunny and warm as about 80 runners and walkers participated in the event as they ran from the YMCA, around the Kirksville Schools and back.

Organizers say this is not only an event to keep people active but to have fun as well.

"I think people really enjoy it. It's a great way to spend the day with the family. It's a great cause. It's a good way to get out. Couldn't ask for a better day," said Brittni Kastelic of the Kirksville YMCA.

All the money raised from Saturday's event will be going to the United Way of Adair County.

This is the Y's annual fundraiser for the organization.
