SCHUYLER COUNTY, MO. -- With the election upcoming, we focus on the Schuyler County sheriff's race. Republican Josh Dole and Independent Joe Wuebker are running against Sheriff Carl “Fritz” Gottman.
Both candidates are running against Sheriff Gottman and spoke about what problems they thought needed to be changed.
“As I was going door to door a lot of people addressed the issue of the accessibility of being available for the citizens. I believe that's a major concern that needs to be addressed right off the bat and making sure we have the updated technology to keep up with the crime and ever changing crime,” said Republican sheriff candidate Josh Dole.
“There’s a big lack of community trust in the sheriff's department and that stems from a lot of things,” said Independent sheriff candidate Joe Wuebker. "From a lack of record keeping to patrol and just response to call when people call in they want.”
As for incumbent, Sheriff Carl Gottman if re-elected, he feels things are fine in the department other than the fact that funding isn't ideal as the department has to use their own vehicles.
“I'd imagine first thing is we'll probably get some cars because two of us are driving our own vehicles,” said Sheriff Gottman. "The county only has one car. I'd imagining it (grant money) would go to that.”
