KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Six new bridges completed was the topic of discussion for Adair County Commissioners Tuesday morning.

Thanks to a 2009 grant from the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the county was able to update infrastructure. The grant is very important to smaller communities across the state.

“We put together a plan to build six bridges. This year we finally completed them. It’s about a 50/50 percent cost share. We get it through regional planning commission in Memphis. It’s a great help. Lot’s of small bridges that we have been able to build that otherwise the county, financially, couldn’t afford to build,” Adair County Commissioner Mark Thompson said.

The county has plans for several more bridges over the next few years, but that could be put on hold. Funding from the CDBG is likely not to be available next year leaving the construction cost completely up to the county.

Adair County Commissioners say it’s more then not having the bridges built. Without work to be done, it could be harder to keep current employees busy with enough work.
