KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- One of Kirksville's finest gets recognition for his heroic actions.

At Monday evening's Kirksville City Council meeting, members honored Officer Matt Kellison of the Kirksville Police Department for saving a man's life.

On September 13, 2012, Kellison was called to a Kirksville residence for a report of an unresponsive male.

When he arrived on the scene, Kellison started chest compressions on the man who was not breathing and had no pulse.

He instructed a female at the residence to begin rescue breaths.

The two successfully revived the man and saved his life.

While Kellison appreciates the certificate and pin he received, he said  it's all in a day's work.

"It makes me feel pretty good, but…I kind of feel like it's what we're here to do anyway,” said Kellison. “I mean, that's what I'm here for, but the recognition's always good, too."

Also at Monday’s city council meeting, two longtime employees of the Kirksville Public Works Department who are retiring were honored.

Delbert Mountain was recognized for 35 years of service with the city of Kirksville.

Eddy Stewart was recognized for 33 years of service.

Kirksville Public Works Director John Buckwalter said while two new employees will fill the positions, there’s no way they can replace Mountain and Stewart.
