The crash happened when a pickup driven by Garrett Hollinrake, 19, of Knoxville, was eastbound on Highway 34, when, according to the Iowa State Patrol, his truck crossed the center line, striking a westbound car head on.

Dead are the driver of the car, Letecia Palencia, 56, and two passengers, Delores Rodas, 66, and Julieta Mendez, 44, all three from Ottumwa.

Hollinrake was injured in the crash and taken to the Lucas County Health Center for treatment. The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
