SULLIVAN COUNTY, MO.-KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A Sullivan County woman has learned the hard way that signing checks that don't belong to you can land you in the slammer.

Stacy Carter, 25, of Green Castle, Mo., is sitting in jail, charged with three counts of forgery.

According to court papers, Carter stole checks from another Sullivan County resident and used them at several businesses in Kirksville. The total dollar amount of the forged checks was over $1200.
