RURAL LA GRANGE, MO. -- Two northeast Missouri residents were arrested over the weekend for reportedly abusing a child.

On Sunday, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office arrested Joseph Budig, 36, and Crystal Pratt, 38, both of rural La Grange, Missouri.

The two are charged with a felony count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigators from the sheriff's office, the La Grange Police Department, Missouri Children's Division and Lewis County Juvenile Office allege Budig and Pratt forced a girl under the age of 17 to stand in a corner for extended periods of time and struck her legs with a belt and wooden rod.

The arrest stems from an investigation conducted in August 2012.

Both suspects are free after posting bond.
