OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Congressman Dave Loebsack of Iowa's 2nd Congressional District is teaming up with other representatives to try to force House leadership to bring the proposed Farm Bill up for a vote.
The long-term bill is not a one-year extension, as previously reported. The new bill provides drought relief and aid to farmers that have been severely effected by this year's drought.
Congressman Loebsack told KTVO Saturday that, "Our farmers and livestock producers deserve action on a long-term, reformed farm bill, not just the lip service they are currently receiving. It is long past time that the House votes on a reformed Farm Bill that provides certainty. Congress needs to pass a Farm Bill and they need to do it now."
Iowa Congressman Tom Latham's office informed KTVO Saturday evening that he also wants to get it done as soon as possible.
The current Farm Bill expires at the end of September.
