OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Driving past the Bridge View Center, the Sculpture Trail adjacent to it is hard to miss.

The Ottumwa Arts Council chooses a select few sculptures to be displayed each year on the trail.

A free reception outside the Bridge View Center on Saturday unveiled four sculptors’ pieces of work.

One of the sculptors chosen was Hilde DeBruyne whose work is titled “Hope,” symbolizing breast cancer.

“So the circular opening in the middle represents the loss a woman has going through breast cancer and so the openings in the sculpture represent all the difficulties and the struggles families go through when someone is battling with breast cancer. Overall it leaves that person as a very beautiful person as someone who sees the beautiful things in life,” said DeBruyne.

The sculptures will be displayed until Labor Day of 2013.

If one of the sculptures is purchased, 20 percent of the proceeds will go to the Ottumwa Sculpture Trail Project which promotes the work of Iowa sculptors.
